How Fish Actually do Have Cognitive Abilities
Dr Theresa Burt de Perera is a Tutorial Fellow of St John's College in the Department of Zoology at the University of Oxford. Dr Burt de Perera was awarded a Fellowship to undertake research to show how fish actually do have cognitive abilities. The work she did during her Fellowship has been accepted as a paper in the journal Animal Behaviour. The For Women in Science Fellowship came at a very significant time as she was days away from giving birth to her second child. Dr Burt de Perera says, "No time is a good time to have children in academia. If you are planning a family, you just have to do it and pick up the pieces later on. If you have a bit of confidence behind you, and support from the institution that you are working in that's really important."
