Human Perception of Pitch, Tone & Spatial Location of Sound
Dr Jennifer Bizley is a Senior Research Fellow of the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics at University of Oxford. Dr Bizley was awarded a Fellowship to research the human perception of pitch, tone and spatial location of a sound source. The For Women in Science Fellowship allowed Dr Bizley to travel to Boston to work with two research groups, one of which focuses on how human listeners extract speech signals in difficult listening conditions, while the second explores methods for understanding how the responses of brain cells can be decoded to support perception. By combining these methods with her own, Dr Bizley aims to produce findings that assist with the design of hearing aids, cochlear implants, neural prosthesis and communication-technologies.
