Is Knowledge Transfer Vital to Preservation of a Species?
Dr Dora Biro is a Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of Oxford in the Department of Zoology. Dr Biro was awarded a Fellowship to undertake research on how knowledge survives within animal collectives, by investigating how birds pass information to one another. As knowledge is just as vital to the preservation of a species as its genetic blueprint, the results may have far reaching applications for conservation. Dr Biro says, "The great thing about the awards is that they are very flexible. I have ear marked a lot of my Fellowship grant for research expenses but I can also spend it on things like childcare and living expenses which is an enormous help to me at the moment" The Fellowship will help Dora to travel to between Oxford and Brussels to visit her children and husband.
