Early Diagnosis of Cancer Via Blood Screening?
Dr Anna Git is a Research Associate at the Cambridge Research Institute. Dr Git was awarded a Fellowship to undertake research to contribute to treatments which will target cancer cells with reduced side effects to normal cells. She had been working on a novel way to identify antibodies that appear in the body in response to cancer long before clinical symptoms of the disease present themselves, with the aim of developing blood tests to screen for cancer and therefore earlier diagnosis.

Dr Git says the L'Oréal award has been significant for her as it has funded out of - hours childcare for her daughters aged 5 and 4. "Unlike existing Fellowships, which fund the science, this Fellowship actually funds the person. Flexibility in spending is an integral part of accepting that women scientistsface unique and individual needs."
