The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards aims to promote and encourage women’s participation in scientific research.This year, we invited ten female PhD students to present their research to the guests of the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards Ceremony. The PhD students invited to present their work covered the fields of life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, mathematics and computer science.

The PhD poster presenters were judged by two of the 2015 Fellows, Dr Paola Crippa and Dr Joanne Durgan. Two students were selected as the winners of the PhD Poster Competition. The winners of the L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science PhD Poster Competition 2016 are:

Rebecca Arnold, University of Sheffield - Binary clusters of stars

Reham Badaway, Aston University - Investigating the use of smartphones in detecting the early movement problems in Parkinson’s disease before diagnosis
